For 12 years, the Haig & Virginia Misakyan Prizes have been a cornerstone of the Atken Armenian Foundation’s mission to nurture Armenia’s brightest musical talents. Thanks to the unwavering generosity of Virginia Misakyan of Toronto and her sons, Daron and Hagop, this enduring legacy continues to open doors for exceptional young artists.
This year, the Misakyan Prizes maintain support for the same remarkable talents as last year, emphasizing the importance of continuity in artistic development. Additionally, a new special award, the Haig & Virginia Misakyan Fellowship, has been introduced due to its significant scale, more on this in another post!

MEET THE 2025 RECIPIENTS
Gohar Manoukyan: Accelerating Piano Excellence
At just 15 years old, pianist Gohar Manoukyan is a shining star on full scholarship at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Music School, studying under Tigran Berkelyan. Originally from Yeghegnadzor, her family relocated to Yerevan to support her promising piano career.
This prize provides Gohar with extra weekly lessons, ensuring her accelerated progress. Her dedication and talent shone brightly last year when she performed Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Gyumri Symphony. To further her development, the Foundation has also loaned her a quality upright piano for her rigorous practice at home.
Gevorg Hakopyan: A Voice Bound for Opera’s Greatest Stages
Fifteen-year-old Gevorg Hakopyan, hailing from Kotayk, has captivated audiences with his remarkable voice. Discovered by the Foundation several years ago, Gevorg has been awarded full scholarships by the Misakyan's for his musical education.
Now, a student at Babajanyan College in the class of Ofelya Hambardzumyan, Gevorg’s prize covers the costs of extra lessons, competition participation, and other vital needs. He has consistently taken first place in national competitions, a testament to his extraordinary potential as a future star of the opera world.
Christina Grigoryan: A Journey from Choir to Master’s Degree
From Vernashen, a small town near Yeghegnadzor, Christina Grigoryan’s musical journey began over a decade ago in the Atken Armenian Foundation Choir. Now starting her master’s degree at the Komitas State Conservatory under Olga Kapoyan, Christina has been supported by the Foundation throughout her development.
Her active participation in all the Zartonk Academies—Vanadzor (2019), Artsakh (2022), and Yerevan (2024)—showcases her commitment to growth and excellence.
