It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Tony Halepli, a loving husband, father, cherished board member and benefactor of the Atken Armenian Foundation, and a true friend to the people of Armenia. He has been a dynamic force behind all AAF activities and projects. His passing leaves us orphans.
Tony's commitment to Vayots Dzor was outstanding; it was a deep-rooted passion that saw him transform entire communities through agricultural development. As the main sponsor of our agro-development projects, Tony was instrumental, alongside our partner, the Community Development NGO, in helping local cultivators modernize their practices and improve their livelihoods. His work in financing the planting of tens of thousands of high-quality fruit trees and establishing nurseries with cutting-edge technology has not only boosted the region's agricultural output but also uplifted the lives of over 1,200 farmer families.
Through Tony's leadership, we have seen the development of orchards, the distribution of fruit tree saplings, and the construction of vital infrastructure, including water pump stations, refrigeration rooms, and a dry fruit facility. His vision extended to the creation of "Mountain Miracle Honey," a brand that has allowed local beekeepers to reach markets far beyond their borders. Tony's unwavering support enabled these communities to break free from financial isolation, bringing hope and prosperity to an area long affected by hardship.
But Tony's contributions were not just about economic growth; they were about people. His initiatives provided employment opportunities to women, persons with disabilities, and those struggling to feed their families. He also initiated and funded projects that provided educational resources and established a driving school—the only one in the region—for the local population.Tony’s heart was always with the youth of Armenia, particularly in the region of Vayots Dzor, where his initiatives brought hope and opportunities to young talents. Through the Hall-Halepli Family Young Talents Fund, Tony provided aspiring musicians with not just lessons but the gift of dreaming big. This support is already giving fruit with the discovery of exceptional talent in the region creating a ripple effect of positivity that has touched families and communities alike.
In the aftermath of the invasion of Artsakh, Tony recognized the urgent need to support the internally displaced by backing our HEAR-VDz initiative, which provided financial support and helped find housing for dozens of families who had lost their homes and country.
Tony's love for Armenia was not just in words but in action. He 'adopted' Vayots Dzor, pouring his heart into its development and inspiring others to join him in building a brighter future for the region. During their visits to the region, Tony and his wife Jocelyne's joy and deep commitment to doing the right thing were inspirational and beautiful to witness. His passion and optimism were a beacon of hope, encouraging the diaspora, fellow Canadians, family and friends to unite and work toward a strong and prosperous Armenia.
We extend our deepest condolences to Tony’s wife, Jocelyne, his daughter, Valérie, and his two sons, Joël and Francis. Tony's spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched, and his legacy will continue to inspire us all.Tony, may you rest in peace, knowing that your contributions have made a lasting impact on the world you loved so dearly. You will be truly missed. You were an angel on earth.
